After the summer competitions, the team returns back in the laboratory to fully exploitate the feedback in an attempt to optimize the already existing car for the next summer competitions. The whole aero package was designed by 2 members in a design and testing period of almost 9 months.Īmphion R will be the improved edition of Amphion.

The aeromaps were used afterwards by the suspension department in order finally to tune the car.Īmphion was equiped with a fully curved Front Wing, an Undertray that consists of 3 difussers, Sidepods, a 5-element Rear Wing and several peripheral devices aiming to increase the total performance such as flaps, ducts, bargeboards, aeroscreen, deflectors and vortex generators. Subsequently, an aeromap was generated by simulating different racing states such as braking, accelerating and steady cornering with the latter to be the one from where we derived data concerning performance during skidpad event.

After various lap time simulations, we set the goal of 580N of downforce at 16m/s and Aero balance at 52% closer to the rear axle. Since Amphion was the second racecar of the team with a full aerodynamic package we didn't have enough data to set clear goals. Moving on to Aerodynamics, the Aero package was designed with main objective to fulfill the 'needs' of the suspension. "Some times you win and some times you learn" they say and that was a perfect lesson for us and we will try to do our best on the next summer competitions.

As far as the dynamic events are concerned, "Amphion" had a decent performance, being fast enough at the Acceleration AutoCross and the Endurance event but the unreliability was a key factor which deprived us of a top-5 place at FSCz. In summer 2019 we participated in three competitions, FSATA in Ricardo Palleti, Italy, FSG in Hockenheimring, Germany were we got the 9th place out of 60 Combustion teams in the Engineering Design Event and in FSCz in Autodromo Most, Czech Repuplic where we gained the 1st Place in Cost and Manufacturing Event and the 2nd place in Business Plan Presentation. That was a good 'omen' that encouraged us to continue the hard work until we manage to built the car and to take place at Class 1 Competitions. Starting with Amphion, in July 2018 we participated at the Formula Student United Kingdom (FSUK) Competition as a class 2 team where we won the 1st place at the Engineering Design Event and the 3rd place at the Business Plan Presentation.
